About the trainer
Mark Ruston is a School Project Manager with Place2Be, a nationwide school counselling service. He has been a counsellor for 20 years. He has worked in universities, drug/alcohol services, youth offending and counselling services and, for the last 9 years, in primary schools in Leeds. He is also a trainer for Place2Be, running the Level 4 Certificate in Counselling Children in Leeds and Manchester and training teachers and school leaders on the Mental Health Champions programme across the UK.
About the training
This course will investigate how we might use the basic skills to develop our ability to work (and stay with) metaphor. We will explore theories (and stages) of play and explore the implications for the relationship in the room. We will also cover the self and play and, through the experiential work on the day, examine how our attitude to ‘play’ might impact on the counselling relationship for counsellor and the child. The day will be structured primarily around the experiential work so don’t dress up!
Quotes from previous feedback:
‘Loved the training – a great mix of theory and practical exercises. Left with a good idea of how play therapy works’
‘Training was brilliant, very relaxed’
‘Playful but serious – a lovely mix’
‘Very knowledgeable trainer’
