About the trainer
Bill Merrington, PhD, MPhil, BSc (Hons), CPsycol, PGCHE, FHEA, Dip CBT-Hypnotherapy, EMDR
Bill initially trained in Forensic Science before becoming ordained in the Church of England. He has worked in city, town, rural and chaplaincy contexts. Bill has specialised in loss issues and has a PhD from Warwick University in the subject of understanding parental child loss cross culturally. He worked 11 years with students in a university context and more recently with ‘lifers’ in a high security prison.
Bill is a Chartered Psychologist and he has written a number of books for children and adults covering grief, pastoral care and counselling. Bill is a qualified counsellor and supervisor. He has qualifications in PGCHE, Play Therapy, Stress Management, PTSD, Traumatic Loss events and CBT-Hypnotherapy. He is a member of the Fellowship of Academic Higher Academy. Bill has written weekly for the York Press on mental health issues. Bill has lectured nationally and internationally on counselling, bereavement and resilience issues. Bill is married with three grown up children. His hobby is carving portraits in wood, in which he has won international competitions.
Bill is based in York and currently runs his own supervision and therapeutic practice alongside writing books and being a Chaplain of Pocklington school.
