Two-day course for professional counsellors (or counselllors in training) with Allie Outram.
CBT-E is the leading evidence-based, most effective treatment for eating disorders. Of the 80% who complete treatment, three quarters make a full recovery which appears to be well-maintained.
In May 2017, NICE published new clinical guidelines on the treatment of eating disorders. These recommended CBT-E for the treatment of all eating disorders seen in adults. It was also recommended as a treatment for younger patients as an alternative to family-based forms of treatment.
CBT-E has three goals:
- Remove the eating disorder psychopathology – disturbed ways of eating (and low weight, if present); extreme weight control behaviour, and concerns about eating, shape and weight.
- Correct the mechanisms that have maintained this psychopathology.
- Ensure the changes achieved during treatment are lasting.
