Freedom4Youth: Wellspring’s Young Peoples Project
The Wellspring Young Peoples Project is a counselling service tailored specifically for youth. We recognise that young people often go through really tough times and benefit from talking to someone who is outside their situation and trained to offer support. Presenting issues may include self-harm, eating disorders, anger, substance misuse, bereavement/loss, depression, anxiety, youth crime, low self-esteem, relationship problems and under-performance at school.
Unfortunately talking doesn’t make everything go away…we know this. However, a Wellspring counsellor will help the young person understand the issues they face by encouraging them to talk about what is bothering them, listening carefully and prompting thoughtful exploration. They won’t judge or criticise, but will offer support and encouragement to express difficult feelings and to make sense of their ‘world’. This provides an opportunity to re-think things and make some positive changes.
Most young people prefer these sessions to be on a 1:1 basis but we also run short term group based work as necessary. Group work often has a particular focus such as understanding anger and anger management or building healthy self-esteem and assertiveness. Click here to read more about Empower.
Through our person centred approach, young people’s needs are of primary importance, resulting in an inclusive, friendly service that is supportive but also challenging in order to move young people forward with improved strategies and greater resilience.
As part of the services we provide to support young people, Wellspring also runs a Youth Mental Health First Aid course which is designed specifically for people who teach, work with, live with or care for young people aged 11 to 18.
Key areas covered within the course include:
- Promoting emotional, mental, social and psychological well-being
- Eating disorders
- Substance/Alcohol misuse
- Suicide
- Self Harm
- Depression/Anxiety/Psychosis
- Bullying and Cyber bullying

Our aim is to enable young people to successfully make the transition to adulthood.
