With 2020 on the horizon, many of us will be coming up with ideas for New Year’s resolutions. Perhaps you’ve been thinking about increasing the amount you give to charity or would like to take part in fundraising. We thought we’d share the story of one of our lovely supporters, Karen. (Pictured above with Emily Fullarton, Director of Wellspring.) She held a fantastic fundraising event in aid of our work. We hope her story gives you some ideas and inspires you as you make plans for the year ahead.

Why did you decide to fundraise for the work of Wellspring?

I heard about the helpful work that Wellspring provides for people of all ages and wanted to raise funds for this charity in memory of a young man. I contacted Wellspring and was kindly invited to visit the centre, look around the therapy rooms and learn more about the help that Wellspring provides.

What was the fundraising event you held?

The event took place at Markington Village Hall on the 12th October (just after World Mental Heath Day). It began with a moving talk from Pat Sowa who works tirelessly as a change-maker in mental health and education. We then had a naming of the tree that we used during the evening, which was aptly called the Tree of Tranquility. We invited people to write on the leaves with their thoughts, an uplifting quote, or the name of a special person who they were thinking of. The messages were lovely to read and really touching.

How did you raise money?

There was an auction , a raffle, a fabulous live band and a buffet. People joined us not only from the local Markington community but also from Ripon, Harrogate, Leeds and Keighley – a wonderful turn out! We raised £1,000 for Wellspring Therapy, where it will provide valuable help to those needing assistance. We wish Wellspring continued success in supporting the mental wellbeing of all those who come to them.
